So this pass Sunday was the benefit signing for REVOK in his fight for freedom. It was a great turn out and all the proceedings went to help him out with his legal fees.
REVOK is one of the very few writers out there putting in such a high quality work, enough were we didn't mind at all to do this signing. He was more into when do we want to this signing.
We were lucky enough that it didn’t rain that night.

Corey Helford Gallery is proud to present “Black Sugar”, a solo exhibition of new works by Los Angeles artist Joshua Petker. For his first solo show in Los Angeles as well as at Corey Helford, Petker creates an ethereal world filled with mysterious muses and enchanting sirens that is as colorful and opulent as the neon palette he paints from. Influenced by history, fashion and the pursuit of beauty, the artist infuses his imagery with a potent mix of lost love, stolen hearts, sexual longing, and spiritual death. “Black Sugar” reveals a secret garden filled with Petker’s signature dark flowers, while expanding the visual vocabulary of his landscapes with the introduction of new elements such as unicorns, butterflies and wolves. The exhibition will feature Petker’s acrylic-on-panel works in a larger size and scale than before, as well as unveil a limited-edition giclee print available in four colorways. “Black Sugar” opens to the public on Saturday, October 4 from 7 to 10pm, and the exhibition will be on view until October 22, 2008.Born and raised in California, Joshua Petker spent his youth between San Francisco and Los Angeles. He attended The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington where he earned a BA in Social Science and Biblical Archeology. However, it was writing graffiti at age fourteen that laid the groundwork for his fine art career. A self-taught painter, Petker studied Western literature, art and culture, taking cues from Vincent Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt to Andy Warhol and Darby Crash. In 2005, Petker’s work was selected by LACMA curator Howard Fox to be included in the museum’s Art Here and Now program, and his paintings have garnered sold-out exhibitions at numerous galleries on the West Coast. Petker’s growing list of collectors include Jennifer Nicholson, Kevin Smith and Davey Havok, and this past year, he collaborated with Jared Gold’s Black Chandelier label to create a collection of exclusive limited-edition products. Graff Tip #1 Non Smelling Markers

So I've decided to begin to share my years of experience with all of you. This is a new segment that I'm doing. "Graff Tip" will be tips and tools of the trade and reviews on different markers, paint, and everything in between.


this week my focus is markers. Most high permanent ink or paint markers give off a very strong very beautiful smell that most normal people find bad. this becomes a problem when working around people who cant take this smell.

so here's the tip i have for you. i recommend pure vanilla extract because it doesn't change the paint color or mess with the integrity of said substance.

this works for most if not all refillable markers, paint or ink, such as OTR's, Krink, Pilots, and any other marker that can be refilled.


so there you go, now you can work without the smell and the headaches.

Los Angeles-based graffiti legend turned fine artist Mear One continues an ongoing Upper Playground artist series of portraits of presidential nominee, Barack Obama.

There are 50 prints available that will be signed and numbered and each poster retails for $200. Mr. Brainwash Solo Art Show

Mr. Brainwash, or MBW, is the moniker of an eccentric French filmmaker. MBW has spent the last nine years attempting to make the ultimate documentary about graffiti art. But whilst filming many of the world’s most renowned street artists at work, MBW began putting his camera aside and making art of his own. He has graduated from a few hand-drawn stickers to giant billboard sized paste-ups. MBW does not fit the stereotype of your average street vandal. His artistic process chiefly consists of throwing random modern cultural icons into a blender and turning it up to eleven. The results are by turns profound, provocative and inspirational. “Life is beautiful” is the first exhibition ever mounted by Mr. Brainwash. It takes place in a former Hollywood studio complex and will feature over 200 paintings, sculptures and prints alongside an installation made from 25,000 books and a life-size re-creation of Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks.” For more info go to http://www.artshow2008.com/
